Training and Assessing
Would you like to train the next generation of lifeguards and lifesavers?
From the one-day Assistant Teacher course which is open to those 14+, to full trainer assessor courses for those 18+, NSVL can run the full range of trainer assessor modules.
The basic skills to train the trainer and train the assessor are covered in the Foundation Modules which must be completed by trainer assessors in all disciplines. There are then further specialist modules covering pool lifeguarding, beach lifeguarding, lifesaving and extended life support.

The following RLSS UK Trainer Assessor modules will be run subject to demand (confirmed dates for Pool Lifeguard TA only).

Pool Lifeguard Trainer Assessor
If you are wishing to take the next step in your lifeguard career and train the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), there are two qualifications available.
To train Unit 1 of the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), you will need to become a Pool Lifeguard Trainer Assessor (Unit 1 TA). After completing the course successfully you will need to be moderated running a course and assessing courses before becoming fully qualified.
If you are wishing to train Unit 2 of the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), you will need to become a Pool Supervision Trainer Assessor (Unit 2 TA).
As a minimum, you will need to be 18 years of age, be a member of the Royal Life Saving Society UK and hold a full, current National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ).

Beach Lifeguard Trainer Assessor
If you are wishing to take the next step in your lifeguard career and train the National Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NBLQ), you will need to undertake a Beach Lifeguard Trainer Assessor course.
On successful completion of the course you will need to be moderated running a course and assessing courses to become fully qualified. NSVL has facilities for probationary trainers to run courses where required.
In order to train and assess the specialist modules of the NBLQ, Trainer Assessors need to demonstrate competency, accredited prior learning or hold an appropriate qualification.
As a minimum, you will need to be 18 years of age, be a member of the Royal Life Saving Society UK and hold a full, current National Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NBLQ).

Lifesaving Trainer Assessor
Becoming a Lifesaving TA enables you, after a period of moderation, to train and assess the RLSS Lifesaving Awards programme including Bronze Medllion and Life Support.
As a minimum, you will need to be 18 years of age, be a member of the Royal Life Saving Society UK and hold Bronze Medallion or higher.

Extended Life Support Trainer
This qualification consists of two parts:
- Airway management (oxygen therapy and suction)
- Automated External Defibrillation
The qualification allows the holder to train personnel in the use of AEDs and oxygen/suction where required.

Assistant teacher
This is a one day course open to anyone aged 14 and upwards as an introduction to training and assessing.
Assistant Teachers can assist qualified trainers running classes, especially at Rookie level, and it is a good step up for older Rookies who have been through the programme and are looking for something new.
To attend the course you must be 14+, member of RLSS UK, hold Bronze Medallion or higher, or NRASTAC, or NPLQ, or NBLQ.
