Training Checklists

These checklists are a valuable resource for trainers to enable on-going lifeguard training to be recorded accurately and compactly within Approved Training Centres. Pool lifeguard checklists will be added in 2005.

The Life Support and Extended Life Support checklists provide a comprehensive step-by-step guide to each treatment which is also useful to lifeguards as a revision aid.

Please note: these checklists are not intended as examination checklists.

- Basic Life Support Training (118kb, 3 pages) - includes: adult, child and baby sudden collapse, trauma casualty, adult, child and baby choking, vomiting casualty, dual operator CPR, use of pocket masks and recovery position.

- First Aid Training (86kb, 1 page) - includes: ability to recognise and manage first aid conditions, principles of casualty examination / communication / handling, practical demonstrations of wound dressing, application of slings and cervical neck collars, six spaces for first aid incidents to be written in.

- Extended Life Support 1 - AED Training (76kb, 1 page) - includes: role of first lifeguard on scene, role of AED operator and theory questions to test understanding. Checklist also includes space for times to be written in when used as part of mock incident training (time to AED arrival, time from arrival to AED unit analysing).

- Extended Life Support 2 - Airway Management Training (91kb, 1 page) - includes: role of first lifeguard on scene, role of oxygen-equipped lifeguard (conscious and unconscious casualty), use of V-Vac suction unit, airway management theory understanding.

- Beach Lifeguard Theory Training (68kb, 1 page) - includes: beach/ocean safety, principles of lifeguard administration, working with other agencies, communications, site specific.

- Beach Lifeguard Open Water Rescue Skills Training (87kb, 1 page) - includes: NBLQ Issue 3, version 1 assessment syllabus rescues with the option to write in times, additional skills and team incidents skills list.
