There are four Blue Flag beaches in North Tyneside with lifeguards, and three of them have rescue boats. Cullercoats Rescue Boat in particular sees a lot of action rescuing people off rocks when the tide comes in and also towing broken down boats into the harbour...much to the annoyance of the Cullercoats RNLI Lifeboat crew who have seen a reduction in their callouts since the lifeguards became a declared facility and could be called upon by the Coastguard.
